An 18th-century property, magnificently reborn
Situated in the quiet village of Vorno, ten minutes from the historic centre of Lucca, the estate comprises three separate buildings — the Villa, Casa del Contadino and Forno — set within a two-hectare garden-park with a lake, outdoor pool, indoor spa and tennis court.
History
A dream, at first sight
Spring, 2015. Marleen and Luc Van Marcke, seasoned explorers of Tuscany, are cruising through the secluded village of Vorno when a magnificent old villa catches their eyes. They halt the car. Without exchanging a word, they gaze at each other and smile: “This is our dream property.”
Shortly afterwards the estate was theirs, named Villa Marie as a fond nod to their daughter. Over the next five years — assisted by top Italian architects, artisans and material suppliers — the couple fully renovated the Villa and its adjoining buildings, tastefully fitting three-century-old architecture for the 21st century, and designed the great garden-park that surrounds them.
